Alternative therapies have been described as one of the ranges of systems of healing or treating disease not included in the traditional medical curricula taught in Europe and America. Sometimes alternative therapy practices are based on belief systems. Alternative therapies usually incorporate spiritual, metaphysical and religious foundations, sometime untested practices or newly developed approaches to healing are also included. Alternative therapy is generally safe and effective. Conventional practitioners have adopted it and it is no longer considered as alternative therapy. Alternative therapies are commonly categorized together with complementary medicine under the term ‘complementary and alternative medicine’ (CAM for short).
Some critics say that some of the fields of alternative therapy are not scientific. Jurisdictions also differ concerning the legality of the branches of alternative therapy. Numerous supporters of alternative therapy strongly disagree with the limitations extended by the government agencies that approve medical treatments. India, home of several alternative systems of medicines, has already recognized many of the alternative therapies. Many people make use of conventional medicine for diagnosis, while turning actually to alternative therapies. The studies show that most people use alternative therapies with conventional medicines. Increasing numbers of medical colleges’ world over have begun offering courses in alternative medicine. The most common CAM therapies used were the prayer, herbalism, breathing meditation, meditation, chiropractic medicine, yoga, body work, diet-based therapy, progressive relaxation, mega-vitamin therapy and Visualization.
The practice of using complementary medicine collectively with conventional medicine is known as integrative medicine. Alternative therapies include herbal medicine, Chinese medicine, chiropractic, naturopathy, osteopathy, acupuncture, homeopathy, reflexology, aromatherapy, Alexander technique, Bach and other flower remedies, massage, hypnotherapy, shiatsu, ayurvedic medicine, nutritional medicine, yoga, anthroposophical medicine, spiritual healing, iridology, kinesiology, meditation and others.
It is advisable for patients to inform their doctor when they are using alternative therapies, because some treatments may interact with conventional medical treatments, and such possible clash should be investigated in the interest of the patient. However, many patients are usually unwilling to share this information with their doctors since they fear it will hurt their doctor-patient relationship. However not informing their conventional doctor can sometimes cause harm.
Many critics of alternative therapy claim that people have been hurt or killed directly from various alternative therapies or the subsequent avoidance of conventional medicine which they consider unnecessary.
It may be very surprising to learn that many of the prescription drugs are now being tagged as dangerous for human health, there is a big problem posed by people’s attitude in using the alternative remedies, the problem is not in those remedies themselves, but in the way people like to use them to address their health challenges.
In other words people generally come to the alternative therapy searching for that magic pill to cure them with a snap of finger, as the conventional prescription drugs do not offer cure usually, instead they only help to suppress the symptoms for the time being. Vast majority of chronic diseases are caused by the lifestyle adapted by the patients themselves. Usually patients are asking for a magic herb to cure their symptom. If they have pain, they want a pill that will eliminate the pain. The problem with patients is that they fail to recognize the internal cause of their pain, or they fail to take ownership of their role in creating the disease they are expressing.
This is extremely frustrating for practitioners of alternative therapies. Because therapists want to help patients, but most patients really aren’t looking for long-term solutions or the cure, what they’re actually looking for is short-term masking of their symptoms, using products that they can call natural. There is a huge challenge before the therapist and that is educating patients. However, most patients aren’t looking to be educated. They don’t want to change their lifestyle, and they don’t want to have to do anything that’s too uncomfortable or unfamiliar. Alternative medicine is not better than conventional medicine if the patient treats it as a temporary cover up for a set of symptoms that they have created in their life through their reluctance to change that lead to long term health goals.
Alternative therapies really can do wonders for you, if you turn to them whole heartedly and follow them religiously for a long term cure of your problems. One more thing to be certain of is proper accreditation of the therapist but this does not always guarantee the expertise.

Acupuncture is an ancient natural therapy that originated in China many centuries ago and that is still practiced today. In fact, the practice of acupuncture can be traced back to the Stone Age. Japan and Korea also have their own acupuncture medicine techniques and today acupuncture is very much accepted in the western world.
Simply out, acupuncture involves inserting extraordinarily-thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the body’s healing abilities. Acupuncture can be used to heal and overcome a variety of physical and mental health related problems.
Here are some common ailments that can benefit from acupuncture sessions:
* Acupuncture has the ability to release muscle tension, as well as tension in the connective tissues. This allows the lymphatic, nervous, and circulatory systems to function more efficiently. For these reasons, acupuncture is helpful in both prevention and treating musculoskeletal disorders. In fact, many sports figures are known to use acupuncture in order to improve training and performance, as well as to speed up healing and to manage pain.
* Acupuncture assists in the recovery of drug and alcohol addiction. It does this by helping to reduce withdrawal symptoms, decreasing cravings, relieving tension, and helping people relax. In fact, acupuncture is so successful in drug treatment recovery that many clinics throughout the United States use acupuncture as an integral component of their programs.
* Acupuncture can aid in relieving pain. This is, in part, due to the fact that acupuncture increases the body’s level of endorphins, which are often referred to as “feel good” chemicals. Acupuncture also helps normalize nerve impulses because acupuncture points and the central nervous system are connected.
* Evidence has indicated that acupuncture strengthens the body’s immune system and natural resistance. It has been shown that there is an increase in white blood cells, as well as in the level of Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Globulins after an acupuncture treatment. Alpha and Beta Globulins are thought to help white bloods cells better fight infection, while Gamma Globulins assist in the production of immune antibodies.
* Stress can lead to more serious health problems, such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and respiratory problems. According to Chinese medicine, stress causes these problems when the liver energy is out of balance. Therefore, acupuncture helps but this energy back into balance, which relaxes the muscles and brings about peace of mind.
* They can also cause more serious problems, such as joint pain, diabetes, glaucoma, kidney problems, depression, heart palpitations and learning disorders. Through acupuncture, the body can be detoxified and the immune system can be strengthened, thereby causing the body to cease having allergic reactions.

AFP - AIDS-ravaged Malawi is helping up to 20,000 children with free drugs, a top government official said Wednesday.
“Close to 20,000 children are now receiving treatment,” Mary Shaba, permanent secretary for HIV/AIDS and nutrition in the president’s office, told AFP.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says up to 50,000 children in the impoverished southern African country are in need of anti-retroviral therapy (ART).
According to Shaba, official reports show that 26-30,000 children a year have been infected with HIV since 2004, mainly through mother-to-child transmission.
“These are reports of children we have been getting since 2004 … not all children need treatment now, but the government is serious now to reverse the situation and we have intensified the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV,” she said.
She said government now had 144 delivery and service centres, up from 36 in 2004, throughout the nation’s 28-districts to help stem transmission.
“We are getting dividends…we should be getting a different situation within one to two years,” she added.
In 2005, UNICEF estimated there were some 83,000 children living with HIV, while close to a million children had been orphaned by AIDS.
The pandemic has cut life expectancy to 36 in Malawi, where some 14 percent of the country’s 12 million population are infected with HIV, which claims the lives of some 80,000 people a year.
A free ARt programme launched in 2004 now provides some 110,000 adults with treatment.

Uh oh, those wrinkles are really starting to sprout up now, no matter how well you treat your skin. But you can still look younger. Here’s how.
Turning 40 is hard; it’s a physical milestone that’s harder on the psyche than the body. For most people, there’s a huge difference going to bed at 39 years old and waking up the next morning at 40.
Relax, there’s no need to panic. Being 40 isn’t quite what it used to be. And thanks to technology and smarter health habits, celebrities aren’t the only ones who have the ability to look younger anymore. Unlike when you were in your 30s, you’re no longer going to be able to look like a fresh twentysomething; it’s physiologically impossible. The biggest hurdle of turning 40 is accepting that reality. You can look younger, but you cannot look like you did 15 years ago. Nobody does.
But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. At 40, you’ve stopped being a girl and you’ve become a woman. Don’t chase after what you no longer have (flawless complexion, tight skin, no wrinkles). Instead, embrace what you do have now: poise, confidence, wisdom, experience, and for some of you, more financial stability and career advancement.
That said, there are still lots of things you can do to look younger. Remember, you won’t look 25, but you shouldn’t want to. Looking 25 wouldn’t match your new attitude and outlook on life. Embrace 40, don’t run from it.
Your strategy at this point is to prevent further damage and continue correcting the damage that has already been done. That will take some work, because there are scores of skin products to choose from, but after reading this, you will have a clearer plan of attack. That’s why we’re here, to review products and educate you on your way to your ageless face.
In order of importance, here are the steps you need to take right now to ensure a more youthful face for as long as gravity will let you.
1. Wear sun block. I repeat, wear sun block. Unfortunately, not all sun blocks are the same. In fact, some mainstream sunblocks will do nothing for you.
#1, it must block both UVA rays (the ones that age you) and UVB rays (the ones that burn you). But this is tricky, because even bottles that say they block both rays sometimes don’t do so. They mostly block UVB rays, which means the UVA rays will still come through.
Make sure the bottle you is a “broad spectrum” UVA/UVB blocker. Ingredients to look for are zinc oxide, titanium oxide, avobenzone, Mexoryl, or Helioplex.
#2, it must have an SPF (sun protection factor) of 15 or higher. I personally use the highest SPF I can find, which right now is about 55. You probably don’t need to go that high, but aim for above 15. Remember, SPF refers to UVB protection, so a high SPF means nothing unless the sunscreen blocks UVA rays.
#3, wear it all the time. Just because you are in the shade, or indoors, does not mean you are safe from the sun. Rays deflect, and that umbrella you use to shield the sun is only partially effective. When you’re indoors, the windows allow UVA rays to come in the house and age you when you least expect it. Cover up at all times, and re-apply a few times a day if you’re going to be outdoors a lot.
#4, the weather doesn’t matter. Clouds block some UVB rays, but UVA rays still come through. No matter the weather, wear sunscreen. Besides, wind also damages your skin, so you need as much protection as possible at all times.
#5, don’t just protect your face. Don’t forget your ears, hands, arms, legs, shoulders, etc. Even your lips need protection (from an SPF lip balm, not sunscreen).
#6, apply sun block correctly. This is extremely important. Sun block does you no good unless there is absolutely nothing between your skin and the sun block cream. That is, sun block must be the first thing you apply after washing your face in the morning. You must then wait at least 10 minutes before applying anything else or going outside, since the sun block needs time to sink in.
2. Stop smoking and drinking. Even if you don’t smoke, you might be around someone who does. Both smoke and second-hand smoke badly damage your skin. Smoking can also kill you in other ways, so the benefits go far beyond skin care.
My aunt has smoked for years, and I could stick nickels in the deep wrinkles all around her mouth and face. Smoking has made her look 20 years older than she is. Stop smoking now, and don’t hang out with people who do, because they’re badly aging your skin for you.
3. Hands off the face! Try not to let anything, whether it’s your hands or rough towels, touch your face.
Whenever you rest your face on your hand, you’re wrinkling your skin. If you rub towels over your face in rough fashion, you’re wrinkling your skin. And when you sleep face down on a pillow, you’re wrinkling your skin all night long.
Hands off the face, for one. Secondly, never scrub your face with anything. Instead of drying your face with a towel, pat it down gently. And when you sleep, lie on your back. The effects of gravity will be minimized, and you won’t be pressing your face into a pillow for 8 consecutive hours. Speaking of 8 hours…
4. Get some sleep. Lack of sleep is one of the #1 causes of premature aging, and not just for your skin. Aim for at least 7 hours, and ideally 8 or 9. “Beauty sleep” really is beauty sleep. So hit the sack.
5. Keep a poker face. People with straight, emotionless facial expressions are considered to be boring. But they also age well. Here’s why.
Excessive facial expressions such as laughing, smiling, frowning, and other silly clown faces, wrinkle your face. They bend, twist, and churn your skin into a wrinkled mess. There’s a reason clowns wear make-up.
I don’t suggest you give up laughing, because that’s impossible unless you watch the lifeless sit-coms on network TV these days. I do suggest you minimize the width of your smiles and laughs, and frowning is absolutely out of the question. Also, get a good pair of UV-protecting sunglasses. They’ll cut down on your squinting in the sun, and squinting causes that annoying wrinkle in your furrow.
Your face is not an Etch-a-Sketch, so treat it well. And crack a smile (but just a little).
6. Eat right. You know you need to eat right, but many of you don’t. And when you do, it’s usually a fad diet like Atkins, South Beach, or the Zone.
Bottom line: eating right is simple. The hard part is having the discipline to do it, but since you are interested in aging well, you’re going to learn discipline.
1) Drink lots of water. Water is good for every organ in your body, including your skin.
2) Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. They are filled with nothing but goodness, including the vitamins and nutrients your body (and skin) needs.
3) Minimize your portions. Find out what a serving size is, and eat just that. You’d be surprised what a serving size of meat really is (about the size of a deck of cards).
4) Eat lean protein. Fish, lean beef and poultry, egg whites, low-fat dairy products, beans, lentils, and nuts are all good sources of protein.
5) Choose your carbs. Forget about simple carbs like white bread, white pasta, and baked goods and desserts. Your carbs need to come from whole grain sources like flourless (or 100% whole wheat) bread, high-fiber cereal, wheat pasta, brown rice, quinoa, bulgur wheat, fruits, and vegetables.
7. Identify your flaws. At your age, you’re probably well familiar with the flaws you think you have. In your 40’s, these are some of the flaws you might see:
-Laugh lines
-Drooping furrow
-Lines around the mouth
-Facial sagging
-Excessively dry or oily skin
Since there are so many skin products on the market, identifying your most noticeable flaws will help you narrow down your search considerably. Be your worst critic, and check all flaws that apply. And then rank your flaws from most noticeable to least.
8. Consider your alternatives. The fact that you’re reading this shows that you’re willing to do something about your aging. That’s the good news, because some people just don’t care. If you’re content with aging and wrinkling, that’s your choice. But for those who want to enjoy looking younger as long as possible, be prepared to do what it takes.
Prevention is great, but at your age, most of the damage has already been done. You’ll need to turn back the clock the old fashioned way. And for that, you’ve got only 3 options:
-Botox, or some other cosmetic procedure (Restalyne, etc)
-A facelift
-Topical anti-aging skin products
-Cover up with makeup
Botox and other similar outpatient treatments aren’t discussed here. Some of them are very effective, but also very expensive and invasive. At your age, you’ll probably respond very well to Botox because Botox attacks fine lines and motion wrinkles before they develop into permanent, deep wrinkles. If you want to do Botox, check the ads in your local newspaper and pay a visit for a free consultation. Just remember that in your 40s, you’ll develop wrinkles that Botox won’t be able to erase (such as around the mouth).
Facelifts have a high success rate if you pick a good surgeon, but if you’re considering one, you may want to wait until your 50s. It can be done now, as long as you’re willing to pay for it and deal with the recovery time.
You’re probably well skilled at covering up with makeup, and I encourage you to continue doing that. But as you learned in your 30s, makeup can only do so much.
Your most affordable alternative is to use topical anti-aging skin products. This is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that there are more than enough products on the market to choose from. The curse is that there are so many products, how can you possibly choose the best ones? That brings us to….
9. Select the best product(s) for you. Let us be frank with you: the skin care industry is not regulated, and thus you are peddled countless of worthless products that are NOT proven to work. You need to avoid these or else you will waste a lot of money and lose confidence in yourself and your potential to look your best.
We’re comfortable telling you that there are only a handful of skin care ingredients that are scientifically proven to work. Do not be fooled by any ads, before/after photos, or testimonials.
Check out my ingredient guide, and experiment with some creams that contain the ingredients you feel might work best. They may work, and they may not work. This is normal. Try a product for a few months before deciding if it has made a difference. If so, great. If not, try a different product with different ingredients.
The secret is knowing which ingredients work. Visit the ingredient guide, check out the reviews, and make your decision today.
Summary. A lifetime of these habits will ensure youthful skin for as long as it is able to do so. Everyone ages, and wrinkles are inevitable… BUT you can delay those wrinkles for a long time by following the strategy outlined above. Look good, feel good, and lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy aging.

Frequent rubbing of the skin or prolonged fatigue will cause eye bags. Over dryness and improper eye care will contribute to appearance of wrinkles and crows feet. Towards middle age, the eye area will droop slightly if untreated.
Do eye padding exercise to strengthen the eeye area and improve its circulation around that area. Use your third and fourth finger on each hand, using lightly press and padded movements under your eyes start from inside and then out until you reach the temple and pressed for 10 seconds. Repeat a few times. Do it everyday, during application of eye gel, cream or serum, or whenever necessary without make up.
In today’s changing lifestyle and pattern, you notice some students as young as teenagers have started developing eye puffiness and dark circles which is not so common in the past.
Use eye care products to repair and treat your eye area. Use an eye product daily, add it into your daily skin care regime and start a weekly DIY (Do-it-yourself) intensive eye treatment at home. You may do it alone or together with your DIY home facial treatment.
Use cooling cucumber slices and place it on each eye, rest for 10 minutes. Remove and wash your eye area with clean water. You can also substitute with potato slices or cooling tea bags.
Instead of using vegetables, you can opt to use light weight eye gel masque. Apply around the eyes, rest and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wash your eye area with clean water.

People love the effects of Iionic detox foot baths; they find themselves more relaxed and relieved of tension and stress. But what is an ionic foot bath and how does it work? One example would be to go to a foot spa session provider and experience a detox foot bath session for an average fee of about $30-$75. Many chiropractors, Physicians, beauty salons some health food stores provide this service. Or you may purchase your own unit. But what happens during the ionic foot bath session?
I will try to explain as simply as possible given that this technology is cutting edge and it would require a lengthy explanation. So I’ll stick to the basic facts so as not to confuse the issue.A Ddetox Foot Bath operates through a process called electrolysis. This is done by generating the proper amount of DC current in the foot bath water causing the molecules of H2O to divide producing negative and positive charged particles. These charged particles are called ions. Once the negative ions are present in the water, the body absorbs these ions through a process called osmosis.
So what is osmosis? A simple explanation of osmosis for the application of electrolysis would be the method in which a charged particle can pass through a membrane from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. In other words this is the method in which the ions in your body may become equalized when exposed to an Ionic foot bath. Because people have more positive than negative ions an Ionic foot treatment will theoretically equalize the amount of negative and positive ions in the body.
If this is accomplished the person Will be in what is called a state of [CHI]. Another term for the word chi when referring to the body would be a state of total harmony and balance. It is an ancient philosophy that when the body is in a state of Chi, this is when the body can best heal itself. A detoxified body is a healthy body and a healthy body can heal itself. So what is a negative ion?
A negative ion is an atom that has lost or gained one or more electrons causing it to become negatively charged. This negative ion is smaller than most molecules which allow it to be easily absorbed by the body through the process of osmosis. Negative ions are produced by the ion field that is present by placing an electrically charged array of electrodes into the water during a foot bath session. The Ionic Oasis Foot Spa generates millions of these negative ions during the foot bath session. This causes the body to absorb as many negative ions as possible.
You could compare this process to a fully charged battery. When it has been fully charged it can not absorb anymore energy because the battery has equalized the negative and positive properties contained in it, and has absorbed as much energy as it can store. The foreign matter in a person’s body such as free radicals, harmful chemicals, heavy metals, parasites, and an endless list of other harmful agents cause many health concerns.
It can be very beneficial to ones health to be able to reduce or eliminate these substances. These impurities contain a positive charge, and the negative ions is seeking an opposing or in this instance a positive molecule or particle to attach to. Once attached to these foreign substances they are neutralized then the body can readily identify them and eliminate them naturally through its own natural processes.
Some of the impurities are transferred through the feet during the detox foot bath session however; once a person has absorbed such a high amount of negative ions their body begins to eliminate these toxins naturally over a period of days.
HOW THE FOOT SPA WORKS
The array goes into the water with the feet, and the power supply delivers a small amount of direct current into the array. When used for feet, this array in a container of water is the ionic foot bath. The electrical charge causes the molecules of the metals within the array, in combination with the water and other elements in the water, to divide thus generating positive and negative ions. This also produces small amounts of oxygen and hydrogen to be released into the air. While you are being treated at the foot spa by the ionic foot bath this is part of the chemistry that takes place when you divide the molecule H2O. When experiencing the detox foot bath, you will see the water change color as the electrical current, water, and magnetic field interact with your feet. While the water would change color by itself, the colors are noticeably different with feet in the foot spa and from one person compared to another person.
