This article is intended only to give the reader a basic insight on the cause of cellulite in women.

There are many factors that play into the development of cellulite. Some of these include, but are not limited to, aging, lack of exercise, being overweight, hormonal changes, and heredity. Other contributing factors under study are tension, fatigue, alcohol, and even illegal drug use.

The overweight woman is more likely to develop cellulite than one of normal weight. This is not to say that just because you are a normal weight, size or body type that you won’t be affected. Overweight women are just more likely to develop cellulite due to a higher percentage of body fat.

As we age we become more susceptible to the development of cellulite. Women can and do develop cellulite anytime after puberty although it is much more common after 30 years of age. Due to the fact that, as you age, your skin loses some of it’s elasticity and allows the fatty deposits under your skin to be less restrained and show up as cellulite.

Studies show that hormonal changes are probably the main factor in the cause of cellulite. The hormones in a womans body play a significant role in the amount of blood circulation, fat accumulation and the structure of body tissue. These are all factors attributable as to whether cellulite will form and to what degree.

Inactivity and the general lack of exercise that the American lifestyle now encompasses is another main contributor to the cause of cellulite. Exercise does many things to prevent cellulite formation. It increases the blood flow to areas that may be affected. The fat burn resulting from exercise is a great cellulite prevention tactic. The less fat that is allowed to accumulate means the less chance for cellulite to develop. Cellulite doesn’t form on muscle tissue that is being exercised regularly.

The study of the cause of cellulite formation is an ongoing enterprise. There is not a definitive answer yet to the question of what causes this problem in women. It appears to be a combination of all of the factors discussed above. What we do know is that exercise and the reduction of body fat is one of the best defenses we have against cellulite formation.
