Dove Face Care Essential Nutrients Protective Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15

It took me a lot longer than it should have, but I finally decided I was only going to use facial moisturizers with SPFs in them from now on. Enter Dove Essential Nutrients Day Lotion SPF 15. I’ve always been a fan of Dove products, even if I don’t use their line religiously. In any case, I was standing in the moisturizer aisle looking at Dove Essential Nutrients Day Lotion SPF 15, and Eucerin’s skin renewal lotion. A showdown, if you will. I chose Dove Essential Nutrients Day Lotion SPF 15 for three main reasons – it was cheaper, it didn’t have lactic acid as an ingredient, and it did have Green Tea extract as an ingredient (even if it is inactive).

What Dove says:

Dove Essential Nutrients? Day Lotion is a light, non-greasy, nutrient-enriched lotion clinically proven to hydrate skin to make a lasting difference to the health and beauty of skin. It is formulated with UVA (Parsol 1789) and UVB screen for broad-spectrum protection against harmful sun damage. Instead of just cleansing and moisturizing, it nourishes* your skin, leaving it so healthy it glows.”

How it works:

Essential Nutrients comes in a 4.05 ounce bottle. It’s a simple white bottle with the Dove logo and a pop off blue top. From the looks of it I thought there might be a small pump hidden underneath the top to get the lotion out, but it’s just a normal squeeze bottle. Oh well.

I have to confess that my skin was severely over-processed when I used this. I had gone a bit crazy with benzoyl peroxide, so my skin was nice and sahara-like dry. The first time I used this, I used a generous amount. We’re talking super dry skin here, and I wasn’t going to skimp with the lotion.

Big mistake.

Essential Nutrients, when you use too much, feels greasy and generally unpleasant. I was left with a nice oily sheen on my face. I was disappointed, and nearly returned the bottle then. I’m glad I didn’t, though. I tried it again the next morning, this time using a lot less. I used maybe a quarter size amount for my entire face and rubbed it on gently. Voila! No greasy after-feel. My face still looked shiny, though. I solved that by blotting gently after with a piece of paper towel.

Because my face was a bit over-processed when I first started using Essential Nutrients, it stung a bit to put it on. Now it feels fine – lightweight, yet moisturizing. I was very impressed with the moisturizing. I figured it would take a good week to repair what I had done to my skin. By the second day my skin was beautifully hydrated and not the least bit oily.

I liked the fact that Green Tea is on the ingredient list, albeit part of the inactive list. Green Tea is supposed to have some good properties for your skin, so I was happy to give it a shot. I didn’t notice any scent, other than a vague lotion like scent. Nothing offensive, though.

In short, Essential Nutrients is a great moisturizer that you only need a small amount of. I’ve had no adverse reactions to it whatsoever. My skin feels simply amazing – I love it!
