The best advice is to not do more than 5 sets maximum per muscle group (a set is how many repetitions you do.. moving your muscle/ body part back and forth once is a repetition, however many repetitions you do per muscle group is a set)

When doing this, don’t start out exerting 100%, but rather get into it slowly, and finish off with 100%. It’s the last part of the workout that counts eventually. What most people do is they go into it giving all their effort at the beginning, so once the muscles are warmed up; you are just entirely tired; so how can they get a proper workout, when they are ready you are now tired.

The last part is how much time you spend. If you spend hours and hours working out, this will not work, a few (but sufficient) minutes a day will be enough; you could work out 3 hours a day, but your muscles need rest, and it’s just overexerting and will start working the wrong parts. After time what you really need to be doing is increasing how much weight you lift (and not just tomorrow increase it 10 pounds like I said about the foot size, same thing with muscle size); but rather increase the weights over time when your muscles are ready. When you find it getting easy, your muscles are ready.
